Why linking to new small sites is good

Why no web sites want to link to me?

Small site to big site

I would like to share my point of view about linking to young sites. By young sites I mean the kind of ones that are usually less than an year old. Such sites have hard time gaining links and building authority.

The owners of these sites, do whatever they can to put their site on the map. Many go for paid links and sponsored articles. Some, which are more innovative and perky, can even make it with link bait. However, good old link exchange always takes place. Now, many people refuse to link to such sites when they are approached with a link exchange proposal. The most common argument is the page rank of the page asking for link exchange is too low. For many people, out there, PageRank is the only think that counts. Usually they encouraged you to e-mail them again, once you gain enough PR. I personally advise you to keep such e-mails and contact webmasters one you cover their criteria. What many fail to see is that links from young web sites can be an uncharted goldmine.

Can I have a link, please?

Let’s say a webmaster contacts you (older web site, with more authority) in sear

ch for good relevant links. He is proposing to link from a page with a lot of content and in return he only wants the same. He does not ask for a link from a page with high PR or something really fancy. This can go two directions:

  1. You can tell the webmaster you can not link to him due company policy about sites with PR lower than 3, blah blah. Eventually suggest to him to contact you in a couple of months or even better - an year. Guess who keeps such reminders.
  2. You can negotiate the link exchange between your two sites to a point where both sides a satisfied. You might be right, that the link you get is not by far as valuable as the link you give. But if you can link from a good page, not interacting directly with your link building scheme, you will give more than enough to the other side and leave a lasting impression. This is a solid link, one of the first the other page gets. It’s a pretty sure call that it will last. Furthermore the site will develop and the link will become more and more valuable in the months to come.

Links from blogs

If a blog links to you, it will eventually generate tons of content on a subject very close to your site’s theme. If you managed to get a link from the front page, the link will redistribute itself as the blog-roll goes.

Links from small business sites

In another scenario, if you link to a young business sites, it is very likely that the site will be someone making assure the site is visible for the masses and it does well in the SERPs, or in other words a valuable place to get a link from.It is this little gamble you have to take. Like putting money in the bank and wait for the interest to build up.
